Musings of a Museum Fanatic: Girl Power: 1980's

Girl Power: 1980's

Now we've reached one of my favorite music decades, the 1980's! Many of the early decade girl groups still had a 1970's vibe going on, like the Pointer Sisters. Even with that hold over vibe that didn't stop the ladies from churning out some of the decade's top hits.

Girl bands continued their rise in power and really started to come into their own in the 1980's.  This is really the time when the girl bands started to top the charts. With Joan Jett's I Love Rock 'n' Roll hitting #3 and the Go-Go's We Got the Beat reaching #25 in 1982 the rule of the girl bands was here to stay. These bands ran the gambit with hard rock to sweet pop tunes. Even though they were reaching the top of the charts these girl bands were still considered cute and that it was sweet they were "trying" to play music.

Enjoy some tunes from my favorite 80's gals!
