Musings of a Museum Fanatic: April 2015

Blog Things I Don't Get

As time goes on and I blog more and more I realize that there are some aspects of blogging that I just plain don't get.

Essential oils .... This isn't just a blog thing anymore. I see it everywhere! Where did this come from? How is everyone into it so much already??

Fashion bloggers photos ... Seriously Kevin and I have been working on his photo skills but it is just not happening. I realize part of it is the camera but our point and shoot is a really nice one. I'm just not sure how they do it?

SEO ... I've been working on reading articles and the pins I've pinned on this subject but alas it's just not clicking. Maybe I need to give myself an incentive or something.

Why we don't like our heads ... Whenever you see artist photos it's always of people's feet or the lower half of their body. Are bloggers not supposed to like our heads or something? I think I missed that memo because personally I prefer my upper body to my lower. Maybe that goes back to the whole needing to work on my fashion blogger photo skills.

Instagram giveaways ... I keep seeing these everywhere and have been majorly confused by them. Clearly my months of trying to re-post on Instagram have been in vain since you can't actually post with Instagram you have to get a whole other app for that (Thanks Helene!!) Plus who has time for the loop ones. I unfortunately do not.

Weird nicknames ... I get it to a certain extent for privacy and whatnot but when people start referring to people with cutesy pet names I'm out. No I will not sit there and read about your Hubbins.

Passive aggressive posts ...  Everyone can tell you're writing about a certain something someone tweeted or a post somewhere. Just say where it is so I don't have to google it and try to find out what you're talking about.

Using every single hashtag under the sun ... I realize the perks of tagging posts so you hopefully get more people to see your stuff but seriously there is a point when it just gets ridiculous. Are 18 hashtags really that necessary?

Are you with me on some of these odd blog things or do you have your own list?

6 Heavy Metal Songs I Actually Enjoy

The one thing I pride myself on when it comes to my music is the fact that I can find at least one song in every genre that I enjoy. Kevin is always giving my flack that I hate his metal music but that's just not true! I definitely enjoy going to the darker side of rock and getting my metal on.

Dragula by Rob Zombie
This hit by Zombie came out during high school and by some miracle actually managed to be played on regular rock and top 40 stations often. I think because it made it to my everyday stations and I already had a leaning towards harder rock I just really liked this song.

Beautiful People by Marilyn Manson

Symphony of Destruction by Megadeath
This song I'm not so sure about. I have a feeling it came about during my college years when I really started to explore classic rock and branched out my rock genres from just what was being played on the radio.

Du Hast by Rammstein
This love actually goes way back to grade school. I've mentioned before about how I always wanted to be like my older brother, well this definitely translated into music as well. In high school when he was taking German he was introduced to Rammstein at some point or other. Then brought home abulms which I of course borrower without his knowing or approval.

Party Hard by Andrew W.K.

I love this song. It's harder rock but it's so upbeat and you really can't help but move when you hear it. You should really add this to your work out playlist, trust me.

More Human Than Human by White Zombie

Even though Kevin doesn't believe I like heavier metal music I can prove him wrong every now and then! Are you a heavy metal person or is it not your jam?

What Are we Going to Think About This Friday ...

... the same thing we think about every Friday.

Every Friday rolls around and I some how find myself thinking the same thoughts over and over again. One would think that by now I'd realize how some these thoughts pan out but nope I still have them every week! Almost without fail every Friday my thoughts seem to scatter so today let's spend some time in my Friday brain. There is a lot of crazy thrown in with work.

- Woo it's 8am time to work.

- Man I've been working for forever now it has to be almost break time. 8:45?! what?!

- Oh good Stephanie is finally on Gchat work day can commence.

- Why is the former director asking me how to "Save As" a document again. Seriously this is getting ridiculous. I feel like I should be worried that she can't remember this simple computer task.

- Oooo Pinterest!

- It's finally time to go upstairs and check the mail. What reason do I have to pop into IT and chat with my work friends today?

- Dang I really need a blog post for today. It's Friday though I should just relax. Betsy you didn't post last night you need one for tonight.

- Lunch time! Awesome there are good leftovers from a conference group. Saving part of my lunch for Monday.

- UGH computer come on! All I want to do is edit these 100 huge photo files is that really too much to ask??

- Yes, it clearly was too much to ask. I apologize I'll work on something else for a while while you come off your hissy fit.

- I should read and comment on some blogs. HOLY COW! How did my Bloglovin get up to 298?! Oh hmmm I guess I haven't read the past couple of days have I?

- Man an hour and a half still seriously? Everyone else in my department just got to leave. Maybe some day I'll be salaried and can do that too. Ha.

- Hey look I took care of 1/2 of one of the piles on my desk aaaaaand someone brought in 3 more boxes of donations. Awesome.

- 10 minutes left yesssss. I didn't take my whole break I can pack up early and chat with Brian for a few minutes.

- Weekend!

Kevin's Everything & the Kitchen Sink Pork Tenderloin

The way Kevin eats is very interesting. He tends to combine everything and eat it. We're having leftovers ... put everything in a bowl and avocado then eat it. Cooking meat ... add a dozen different spices then cook it up. This is how Kevin's Everything & the Kitchen Sink Pork Tenderloin came into being. One time when Kevin took over the cooking he decided to spice the tenderloin with probably different spices and rubs plus lime juice. It actually was pretty amazing. Since then we've tried this method a different way each time and it's been a success!

There is no wrong way to do this method (at least that's what Kevin says) so just have at it. I'm going to share with you today's version of Kevin's Everything & the Kitchen Sink Pork Tenderloin!

1lb Pork Tenderloin
Spices (whatever your palate feels like today. I try and pair spices you might find together in different dishes)
Lemon/lime juice

1. Prep your pork. Remove fat and the silver skin.

2. Either in a bowl or in the bag (if you defrosted a frozen tenderloin) add the juice to your tastes. We enjoy the citrus flavor so ours get a little more.

3. Spice your tenderloin. Tonight I used the spices pictured above. I used a little more of the rosemary, garlic and Three Onion Rub since we love those flavors.

4. Cook with your preferred method. I used our Grill Pan since it's still crazy cold here. Outside on the grill is fantastic as well as baked.

5. Let the meat rest for about 5 minutes then enjoy!

I Turned 30!

So yesterday I turned 30. Whoa! It's really crazy to think I'm now in a whole other decade. I'm in my 30's. WHOA. I feel kinda like Sam from Sixteen Candles ...

My 20's definitely had their major ups and some pretty major downs. I'm actually kind of excited to embark on this decade of my life. While I thought Kevin and I would start out of thirties a little more settled I'm thinking these first couple of years might actually contain a lot of changes for us. More of the changes you'd expect from your 20's! With us recently moving to a new part of the Chicago area and Kevin looking for a better position that could end with us in a different area of Chicago still who knows what will happen!

Needless to say I am more excited about our prospects in our 30's than they were in our 20's. Even though it doesn't feel so different than 29 I'm still excited. I spent some of this weekend being productive and was doing a little digital organization, in addition to all the other organization going on throughout the apartment, and showed Kevin some of the baby photos. There was one in particular that he thought was appropriate to share since it's probably my very first photo ever! Although I don't really look particularly thrilled to be entering the world. : )

Terrible Music Videos

Growing up we didn't have cable ... heck Kevin and I still don't have cable! So I pretty much missed out on the whole MTV and VH1 watching music videos thing. Now that YouTube has every video under the sun it's actually pretty funny when I come across some of these music videos because I'm just sitting at my computer ...

Especially when the song is such a good one and they make a crazy video for it. What were they thinking!?

If I Could Turn Back Time by Cher
I think we all know what Cher was thinking with this video ...

Call On Me by Eric Prydz
I actually really like this song, it is a good work out one. I feel like this is what a prepubescent boy in the 1980's imagines that this is what happened at the gym. Which makes sense with how old Prydz is.

Blue (Da Ba Dee) by Eiffel 65
I'll admit it, I love this song! I actually really enjoy most of this album but the video is out of this world. Another one where you should really expect it but you're just not prepared for it.

Everybody (Backstreet's Back) by Backstreet Boys
At first I didn't quite understand where they were going with the video but then I realized duh they're monsters who were dead but now they're back. Still not that great of a music video decision guys sorry!

Cotton Eye Joe by Rednex
Honestly I guess I shouldn't have expected anything different from a song titled Cotton Eye Joe and a band named the Rednex.

The Bad Touch by Bloodhound Gang
Like Cotton Eye Joe I'm not sure why I was expecting more from this video? I guess it's the whole grown men in monkey but with huge human ears thing that is freaking me out. What is that!?

The Safety Dance by Men Without Hats
This video makes absolutely NO sense. I can't even begin to think of how the video connects with the song. I always imagined them being in a futuristic setting for some reason.

Whatzupwitu by Eddie Murphy ft. Michael Jackson
The video ... the song ... Michael and Eddie .... I just can't. There are no words for this entire thing.

I Believe In A Thing Called Love by The Darkness
I'm hoping that the fact they were inspired by 80's hair metal bands is just a spoof and not a tribute. Pretty sure no man should be wearing that tight of a jumpsuit. Such a great song though!

Duh by Corey Feldman
Pretty sure Corey should not be wearing those pants. I also think he just wanted a legitimate reason to run around with girls in lingerie.

Hooked on a Feeling by David Hasselhoff
The Hoff actually sounds pretty good in the video but the crazy green screen antics that are going down are just terrible.

Chinese Food by Alison Gold
All around awful. This video popped up soon after the whole Friday debacle. There is nothing right about this video. Also wtf is with the panda at the sleepover with underage girls and a black man just pops out. Pretty sure whoever made this should have given that a second thought beforehand. Nope nope nope.

Well now that we've gotten all the way through that terribleness! Did I miss any really "good" ones? I'm sure there are more out there that take the cake!

We Moved!

I mentioned this a couple of weeks ago when I shared 9 Things That Have Been Happening but I just had to share now since it finally actually really did happen! We moved!!! It's still crazy to think that what we've been talking about for forever has actually happened. This past week we packed up everything in our current place and at Kevin's parent's house and moved it all. Saturday was a very tiring day let me tell you.

I thought I'd share some new photos of our place. Sorry it's a little messy we're still unpacking and figuring out what all goes where. Plus there is definitely some stuff that isn't staying!

This is probably my second favorite part of the apartment. The whirlpool tub!! I have already used it once and we haven't even been moved in for an entire week yet. Pretty sure I need to get some fancy bubble bath ... or just dish washer soap ... anything that makes bubbles will work right?

We have a washer and dryer!!! No more having to save quarters and having the issue of when we run out deciding which clothes items are more important to wash. My dress pants always win in that fight.

Kevin is really excited about the kitchen too. He keeps saying we can cook together or when you kick me out of the kitchen you can at least talk to me still. I will miss not having a designated larger pantry cabinet. That has made deciding how to set up the kitchen a little tricky.

We are so excited to be able to spread out and actually have space. There have been times when I've been in the bedroom listening to a movie and Kevin can't even hear me in the living room ... it's awesome.

Last but not least we've learned that we really don't need everything that we have so we started a garage sale bin already. Pretty sure I need to expand to a second one now!

There will definitely be more to come once we've gotten everything organized and unpacked. I have some fun ideas for our walls that I can't wait to share soon.

Boy Band Madness Champion

There is finally an answer to the age old question of who is the best boy band ever. Over the past month hair gel was spilled, matching outfits stained and perfectly coifed hair messed up. Out of all the insanity one band was able come out on top ...

The Backstreet Boys!

LFO was on an unprecedented winning streak but was unable to keep up with the dominating force that is BSB. Until next Boy Band Madness at least!

Choose Your Own Adventure

Not Entirely Perfect

How did you do this past month on your "relationship" goals? I'm glad I set the bar lower in March because with everything going on I definitely would not have been able to get any more done.

1. Schedule (hopefully have) lunch out with my friend, Britta
2. Have a girls night with my mom and Bethany
3. Figure out a movie day with Kevin
I wasn't able to do any of the tasks that involved actually doing something but I was able to get all of the dates scheduled. So I feel good about making sure all three are down in my calendar the next month.

Finances in one area I know I need to really work on! I feel like I should go for broke and do really big goals in April because I know we need to do things like develop a whole budget but I feel like going so big just wouldn't get done. Since I'm still in the middle of packing to move this weekend and my brain keeps saying stay smaller I think I'll do just that.

1. Go through financial drop files (once their unpacked) and get rid of old papers we don't need.
2. Meal plan for one whole week according to the sale flyer
3. Deposit change jar in the bank
